Job Summary
We are seeking a Drafting & BIM Manager to lead and coordinate our third-party drafting resources supporting the design and construction of innovative, cutting-edge architectural systems. In this role, you will serve as the primary leader and liaison for all shop drawing production, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and alignment with project schedules. You will collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, superintendents, fabrication teams, and subcontractors to ensure shop drawings are coordinated, compliant, and delivered on time. The ideal candidate has hands-on AutoCAD experience, deep knowledge of construction detailing, and strong leadership skills to manage external drafting teams and maintain high drafting standards across projects.
Job Responsibilities
Drafting Leadership & Coordination
• Lead, manage, and mentor third-party drafting resources
• Serve as the primary liaison between external drafting teams and internal project teams
• Manage shop drawing schedules to meet project deadlines
• Act as the internal point of contact for shop drawing issues and coordination
Drafting Standards & Quality Control
• Establish and maintain drafting standards, procedures, and best practices
• Enforce consistent drafting standards across all shop drawings
• Develop quality control procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance
• Review shop drawings prior to submission for compliance with company standards
BIM & Technical Coordination
• Oversee and manage BIM requirements
• Collaborate with engineers, vendors, subcontractors, and project teams to coordinate drawings
Training & Process Improvement
• Train engineers on shop drawing request procedures
• Train new employees on drafting standards and workflows
• Identify opportunities to improve drafting workflows, coordination, and efficiency
• Implement continuous improvements to drafting processes
Fabrication & System Integration
• Collaborate with the fabrication manager to establish standard system details for our fabricated panel systems
• Communicate and enforce panel system standards with drafting partners
• Identify ways to align shop drawings with fabrication drawings for improved compatibility
Documentation & Knowledge Management
• Create and maintain a centralized portfolio/database of project documentation, including Submittals, Test Reports and Shop Drawings.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Work closely with engineering, estimating, project management, and field teams
• Assist estimating with drafting/procuring sketches and details required for bidding.
• Build feedback loops to improve accuracy and project efficiency
• Identify and escalate schedule risks
• Ability to travel as needed
Professional Development
• Participate in industry conferences, webinars, and internal learning sessions
• Continuously seek ways to improve systems, processes, and team performance
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Education & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 5–10 years of experience in construction drafting, BIM coordination, or shop drawing management
• Prior experience managing third-party drafting teams or subcontractors
• Hands-on experience with AutoCAD and Revit / BIM software
• Experience with construction details, sequencing, and coordination in commercial or façade projects
• Familiarity with fabrication drawings and panel systems preferred
• Proven experience developing and enforcing drafting standards and QC processes
Technical Knowledge
• Understanding of construction methods and sequencing
• Strong knowledge of shop drawing workflows
• Knowledge of BIM standards, clash detection, and model coordination
• Familiarity with AIA shop drawing submittal processes
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
Leadership & Management
• Ability to lead and mentor drafting teams (internal and external)
• Strong project coordination and delegation skills
• Ability to manage schedules, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
Communication & Collaboration
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Able to liaise between internal teams, subcontractors, and vendors
• Ability to train and develop staff on standards and procedures
• Comfortable presenting technical information to non-technical stakeholders

• Ability to establish and enforce drafting standards
• Familiarity with quality control procedures
• Ability to identify process improvement opportunities and implement changes

• Comfortable working with project management software and construction documentation tools
• Understanding of digital project collaboration platforms (Procore, Bluebeam, etc.)
