Job Summary
EDA is seeking an experienced Estimating Team Lead to provide leadership and oversight to the estimating team while continuing to contribute technically to complex bids. This role is responsible for driving accuracy, consistency, and strategic thinking throughout the estimating process to support successful project acquisition and profitability. Position also requires customer interaction at a very high level. Good customer service and customer support will be needed to be successful in this position.
The Estimating Team Lead will oversee blueprint take-offs, detailed quantity surveys, pricing strategy, and proposal preparation, while serving as a key liaison between Preconstruction, Operations, and Executive leadership. This position requires strong analytical skills, advanced trade knowledge, and the ability to maintain high-level client interaction throughout the bidding process.
Job Responsibilities
• Lead and mentor the estimating team, ensuring accuracy, accountability, and consistency in all bid submissions.
• Review and interpret architectural, structural, and MEP drawings and specifications.
• Oversee and perform detailed quantity take-offs using On Center Software (or equivalent).
• Develop accurate and competitive cost estimates using Excel-based estimating models.
• Review and finalize bid proposals prior to submission.
• Strategically follow up on proposals to support successful bid closure.
• Review final contract documents upon award and identify any scope or pricing discrepancies.
• Conduct start-up meetings to formally hand off awarded projects to the Project Management team.
• Collaborate with operations to gather feedback and incorporate lessons learned into future bids.
• Partner with sales representatives and technical specialists to assess constructability, logistics, and cost drivers.
• Monitor awarded project performance against estimate and analyze variances.
• Develop and maintain professional relationships with Construction Managers, Building Owners, Developers, and General Contractors.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- 5+years of estimating experience in commercial glazing.
- Strong understanding of production rates and labor calculations within Roofing, Masonry, Glazing, and/or Historic Restoration.
- In-depth knowledge of trade-specific logistics, sequencing, and means and methods.
- Proficiency in reviewing specifications, contract documents, and CSI divisions.
- Strong understanding of contract terminology including RFIs, scope of work, descopes, liquidated/consequential damages, insurance, surety, and close-out requirements.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and estimating software, including use of formulas for labor and material cost analysis (inclusive of taxes and transportation).
- Strong attention to detail, spatial reasoning, and numerical accuracy.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to mentor team members and drive performance.
- Professional presence and ability to maintain strong client relationships.
