Position Summary

The Service Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate, timely and professional estimates for the commercial roofing service department, fit-out and reroof projects. This role requires strong technical knowledge, organization and collaboration with the service team and clients. The Estimator represents EDA with professionalism and plays a key role in winning and successfully transitioning projects into operations.

Key Responsibilities

Preconstruction & Estimating

  • Travel to project sites to perform measurements, core sampling and develop a full understanding of project scope
  • Thoroughly review all project drawings and documents, including architectural, MEP, landscape and civil drawings, as well as bid documents
  • Review specifications, bulletins and addenda; identify deviations or qualifications and prepare RFIs as needed
  • Perform accurate and well-organized quantity take-offs for all scopes within EDA’s capabilities
  • Utilize estimating software and Excel spreadsheets to develop detailed, accurate cost estimates
  • Prepare clear and concise estimating worksheets that account for alternates, GC scope and all project requirements
  • Reach out to vendors for pricing, provide necessary documentation and track all received quotes

Proposals & Bidding

  • Develop professional, high-quality bid proposals clearly outlining inclusions, exclusions and scope of work
  • Coordinate multi-scope projects with other estimators and submit all packages in a single, organized communication
  • Schedule and participate in internal estimate reviews with senior or lead estimators
  • Submit all bids by required deadlines, maintaining EDA’s standard of professionalism and reliability
  • Maintain a follow-up log for all submitted proposals and seek feedback to understand market position

Contract & Project Handoff

  • Review awarded contracts carefully and coordinate with the GC and EDA’s legal team when required
  • Prepare startup notes and documentation
  • Schedule and lead handoff meetings with the service team to ensure a smooth transition from estimating to execution
  • Create schedules of values (SOV) and finalize estimating spreadsheets for project budgeting

Capacity & Performance

  • Maintain the ability to bid approximately three to four projects per week
  • Level I estimators will focus on Level 1 and Level 2 complexity projects

Required Experience

  • Two or more years of experience in commercial service roofing and fit-out work
  • Two or more years of experience in reroofing
  • Strong understanding of commercial roofing systems and construction processes

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred
  • Strong team player focused on building relationships to collaboratively solve problems
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
  • Experience using estimating and takeoff software such as On-Screen Takeoff or Bluebeam
  • Strong math and analytical skills
  • Ability to read and understand architectural blueprints, including plans, sections, elevations and details
  • Proficient in reading specifications and contract documents
  • Familiarity with construction terminology including RFIs, scope/descope, logistics, liquidated damages and close-out procedures
