Engaging Vice President of Finance and IT

Today we speak with Vice President of Finance & IT, Brendan Mannix.

What’s a misconception people have about what you do for a living?

That it takes a certain personality or temperament to work in accounting or finance. I think people handle aspects of my job every day through their personal finances, and they don’t even realize it.

Was there a moment at EDA, big or small, that made you feel like you were in the right place?

I started at EDA in August 2019. When I saw how the company responded during the COVID pandemic, prioritized its employees, and showed genuine care, I knew I was in the right place.

What’s your go-to sandwich order?

An Italian hoagie is my go-to, unless there is a Reuben on the menu. That trumps all.

What motivates you at work?

Like anyone else, I think it is a mix of fear of failure and wanting to make my boss happy.

If you could have dinner with anyone, past or present, who would it be?

My wife.

What’s one thing you’ve learned about yourself since joining EDA?

My life is very different from when I joined EDA, so I would say I have learned that I can adapt.

What’s a movie or TV show you could watch over and over?

The Shawshank Redemption. If it is on TV, I have to watch it.

What does Successful Together look like to you in your role?

It looks like departments working seamlessly together because everyone has a good understanding of their own role and the role others play in the organization. I find that most interdepartmental conflict happens because of a lack of understanding, not necessarily an unwillingness to help.

What’s one musical artist or podcast you couldn’t live without?

Dave Matthews Band Radio.

What’s one small thing that can instantly make your workday better?

Finding parking in the morning.
