Today we speak with Human Resources Generalist, Ethan Nolan.

What’s a misconception people have about what you do for a living?

People think HR is just dealing with complaints, but it’s really more about supporting employees, helping managers, hiring, and keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes.

Was there a moment at EDA — big or small — that made you feel like you were in the right place?

Pretzel Wednesdays! Joking, but honestly, it’s the people. You can tell everyone genuinely cares about each other and about being successful, not just getting the work done and going home. That kind of environment makes a big difference.

What’s your go-to sandwich order?

Just a classic cheesesteak, nothing fancy.

What motivates you at work?

I’d say seeing things improve day to day and helping wherever I can. I like being able to jump in, solve problems, and keep things moving so everything stays on track.

If you could have dinner with anyone (past or present), who would it be?

Jeremy Clarkson from the original Top Gear. In my opinion, he’s the funniest in the trio, and I imagine he’d have some great stories to tell.

What’s one thing you’ve learned about yourself since joining EDA?

That I actually enjoy being in a role where I get to interact with a lot of different people and help solve problems.

What’s a movie or TV show you could watch over and over?

The Office. The same jokes still make me laugh every time, no matter how many times I’ve rewatched it.

What does Successful Together look like to you in your role?

Making sure people feel supported and have what they need to do their jobs well. When everyone’s working together and things are running smoothly, that’s what it looks like to me.

What’s one musical artist or podcast you couldn’t live without?

I listen to all kinds of music, but if I had to pick one, I’d say my new go-to is Tame Impala. I think the music is unique and fits pretty much any situation, whether I’m working, driving, or relaxing.

What’s one small thing that can instantly make your workday better?

Small, positive interactions throughout the day can make a difference. Whether it’s a quick conversation or quickly resolving something efficiently, it helps keep things moving in a good direction.
