Today we speak with Rich Uslin, Glazing Foreman.

Is there a jobsite you’ve worked on that stands out to you? Why?

I would probably choose the first jobsite I ever worked on, which was about 18 years ago at Channel 6 WPVI.

What’s one thing that helps a jobsite run smoothly?

Teamwork. A good crew and everyone working together goes a long way.

What’s something people would be surprised to learn about your job?

I don’t think a lot of people know what glazing is. I tell people I work on commercial windows, shower doors, storefronts and much more.

What’s your go-to sandwich or lunch order?

My wife makes my lunch every day, so whatever she packs me. If I’m out, then it’s a pork roll, egg and cheese on a long roll.

What motivates you on the job?

I enjoy when everything runs smoothly and I can see steady progress on the job.

What’s one tool you couldn’t live without?

I could live without all of them. Just kidding. It really varies depending on the job and the situation.

Who’s someone at EDA who makes your day better?

A good crew. Part of being a foreman is knowing your crew and understanding people’s strengths.

What’s one musical artist or podcast you couldn’t live without?

Five Finger Death Punch. It’s metal music, but they have a lot of songs about the military. For podcasts, I listen to Jocko and The Shawn Ryan Show.

What does Successful Together look like on a jobsite?

Having the full envelope on a jobsite is great because different EDA trades are all working together. Coordination is easier since we’re all part of EDA, and it streamlines communication instead of the GC having to reach out to multiple companies or channels.

If you weren’t in construction, what would you be doing?

When I got out of the military, the plan was to go to school for accounting. I still deal with numbers as a glazier, but it’s probably much different than being an accountant.
