Today we speak with Principal Project Manager, Ivelina Vodenicharova.

What do you do here at EDA?
I manage large-scale projects and provide support to my team members.
Have you always worked in the construction industry?
I have been working in the construction industry for the past 14 years. Before that, I was a traveling jewelry sales representative for a high-end company, which provided valuable experience in building client relations, communication, negotiations, and navigating diverse markets. I learned the value of hard work and money at a young age, starting my first job at 13 with my parents’ permission. Since then, I have never been without a job. One of the biggest lessons I have learned is that the quality of your team is the most important factor in achieving success.
Outside of work, do you have any favorite activities or hobbies?
Every minute outside of work is devoted to my son and husband. We travel often, from long vacations to quick weekend getaways, and we love exploring our city and discovering everything it has to offer.
What advice would you give to other women thinking about a career in construction?
Construction can seem intimidating, especially in rooms where you might be the only woman. You do not need to know everything to start. Competence is built through experience, just like everyone else in the industry.
Whether you are in project management, operations, estimating, or ownership, spend time in the field. Walk the site. Ask questions. Understand materials, sequencing, safety, and logistics. Field knowledge builds confidence and credibility quickly.
This industry runs on relationships. Build rapport with superintendents, subcontractors, vendors, architects, and owners. Respect goes both ways, and when you show up prepared, people notice.
Stay focused on performance. Let your work speak for you. Work hard and do not get distracted.
What is one thing you never leave home without?
My car keys.
Cats or dogs? Why?
Dogs. Dogs are incredibly devoted. They bond deeply and show it every day. There is something powerful about the unconditional love a dog gives. It is consistent, protective, and wholehearted.
What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of my job is my team. I feel truly fortunate to work alongside incredibly talented and hardworking people. Their dedication, creativity, and commitment make even the most complex projects achievable. I am inspired daily by their problem-solving, teamwork, and drive to deliver excellence. Their collaboration turns ideas on paper into successful results. I am so close with many of my team members that I even go through a bit of withdrawal on the weekends when I am not around them.
If you were planning your favorite meal, what is on the menu?
Linguine alle Vongole
How do you stay updated on industry trends and advancements and are there any recent developments that have caught your attention?
I stay updated on industry trends and advancements by actively participating in multiple construction-focused groups, including Women in Construction and Women in Roofing. These communities are valuable for sharing insights, discussing new technologies, and learning about the latest developments in construction. Being part of these networks allows me to stay informed and connected to the evolving landscape of our industry.
What is your proudest accomplishment, either in your professional or personal life?
Personal life:
My greatest accomplishments are my son’s achievements, whether big or small. Watching him grow up healthy, happy, and curious about the world, enjoying life and exploring everything around him, brings me the most joy.
Professional life:
In construction, my proudest accomplishments come from successfully leading complex projects from concept through completion while maintaining quality, schedule, and budget. Seeing a project come to life and knowing I contributed to its success is incredibly rewarding. I am also proud of earning the trust of owners, architects, and field teams by consistently delivering results. Building strong relationships while navigating challenges and bringing a project across the finish line is something I value deeply.
