EDA's Roots in Soccer: Looking Back at the Philadelphia Union's Subaru Park
As the world’s game takes center stage this summer, EDA is looking back at a project that helped bring professional soccer to the Philadelphia region.

This past weekend marked 16 years since what is now known as Subaru Park opened its doors. Today, the Chester waterfront stadium is known as the home of the Philadelphia Union, but before it became a destination for soccer fans, it was a major construction project that brought together many teams, trades, and scopes of work.
EDA's Role in the Original Build
EDA Contractors was proud to contribute to the original stadium build in 2009, helping support the exterior envelope systems that would serve the venue for years to come. Our scope of work included foundational waterproofing, metal flashing for condensing units, concessions and roof guards, as well as the installation of gutters and downspouts. EDA also completed new roofing systems and flashing across the interior concourse roofs.
The Work Behind the Moments
While stadiums are often remembered for the moments that happen inside them, the work behind the scenes is what helps make those moments possible. From waterproofing and roofing to flashing and drainage systems, each component plays an important role in protecting the structure and supporting the long-term performance of the building.
Part of EDA's Story
For EDA, Subaru Park has become more than a project in our portfolio. Last year, we returned to the stadium to host one of our company Town Halls, bringing employees together in a place that has been part of our story since its earliest days.
Still Connected to the Game
Sixteen years later, Subaru Park continues to bring people together through soccer, community and shared experiences. As soccer takes center stage this summer, EDA is proud to celebrate the craftsmanship and history that connect us to this iconic regional venue.
