Today we speak with Head of Security, Bernie the Goose.

What’s a misconception people have about what you do for a living?
People assume I’m just wandering around causing problems, but I’m actually conducting perimeter checks and enforcing a strict “no suspicious crumbs left behind” policy.

Was there a moment at EDA — big or small — that made you feel like you were in the right place?
Considering I live in the parking lot, it was a bit of kismet that I got a job here. One day I saw a yellow duck waddle out the front door and I thought it was a sign to apply.

What’s your go-to sandwich order?
Anything with bread. Honestly, just bread. Hold the rest.

What motivates you at work?
What motivates me is simple: protecting my territory, keeping the team safe and making sure nothing suspicious goes unnoticed. That includes unexpected noises, unfamiliar faces and, of course, unattended food.

If you could have dinner with anyone (past or present), who would it be?
Probably Ed DeAngelis.I want to inquire about why he chose a duck as a mascot, and not a goose. I could be both head of security and mascot… but I would require a raise.

What’s one thing you’ve learned about yourself since joining EDA?
I am more than just a goose… I am a professional goose.

What’s a movie or TV show you could watch over and over?
I don’t really watch tv. I prefer people watching, hence why I am so good at my job.

What does Successful Together look like to you in your role?
A safe job site, a protected office and everyone respecting my authority without me having to chase them.

What is your favorite video game?
Duck Hunt. Just keeping an eye on the competition.

What’s one small thing that can instantly make your workday better?
Free snacks! I love the snack closet in the office, but since I don’t have thumbs, I am unable to open the door. Whenever it is left open, my day is so much better—I can just waddle right in like I own the place.
