Safety Is Built Into Everything We Do at EDA Contractors

During Construction Safety Week, EDA Contractors is highlighting how proactive construction safety practices, field training, and our Good Catch Program help prevent hazards before incidents happen and strengthen a culture of safety across every jobsite.

During Construction Safety Week, the construction industry takes time to reinforce an important message: every worker deserves to go home safe at the end of the day.

At EDA Contractors, that mindset is part of our everyday operations, not just something we talk about once a year.

Safety plays a role in every phase of a project, from planning and coordination to execution in the field. It shapes how our teams communicate, how work gets performed, and how we support one another on jobsites.

That commitment continues to produce strong results, including an Experience Modification Rate (EMR) below 1.0 year over year across all markets and a 79% reduction in Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) from 2023 to 2025.

A Daily Presence in the Field

EDA’s safety team works closely with crews across projects, focusing on jobsite inspections, training, and reinforcing safe work practices before issues develop. We are supported by HazTek, a construction safety consulting firm, and use leading indicators and ongoing field engagement to help crews stay ahead of potential risks.

Employees also have access to SkillSignal, a platform used to track certifications and training while housing safety forms, documentation, and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for quick access in both the office and field.

Before stepping onto a jobsite, employees complete an EDA-specific safety orientation and maintain OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour certification. Toolbox talks, routine inspections, and direct support from Safety Coordinators remain part of day-to-day operations on projects.

Looking for Problems Before They Become Incidents

One area EDA continues to focus on is shifting safety further upstream.

Safety should not begin after something goes wrong. Some of the most important moments happen when someone notices a concern early, speaks up, and prevents an issue before work continues.

That thinking is what helped shape EDA’s Good Catch program. The program encourages employees to identify hazards, unsafe conditions, and potential risks before they turn into incidents.

Sometimes that means recognizing a fall hazard. Other times it may be equipment, access, housekeeping, or a process that needs to be adjusted. The goal is simple: create an environment where employees feel comfortable taking action early instead of waiting for a problem to occur.

Initiatives like our Good Catch program help reinforce that safety is not only the responsibility of the safety department. It belongs to everyone on site.

More Than Physical Safety

EDA also recognizes the importance of psychological safety on jobsites and in the workplace. Employees are encouraged to speak up, ask questions, raise concerns, and use stop-work authority when something doesn't feel right.

That level of communication and trust plays a major role in building safer projects and stronger teams.

Construction Safety Week serves as a reminder of the importance of staying focused on safety, but at EDA Contractors, the work continues long after the week is over.
