Wellness Is Part of the Work
National Wellness Month is a reminder that supporting our people is an essential part of building a safer workplace.

As National Wellness Month comes to a close, it is a good time to remember that wellness is not separate from the work we do. In construction, it is part of it.
The industry has made meaningful progress in prioritizing physical safety. We plan for hazards, wear the right PPE, hold safety meetings, and look out for one another on the jobsite. But a safe workplace also needs to make room for the challenges people may be carrying outside of work, including stress, mental health concerns, substance-use struggles, and the pressure of everyday life.
Wellness Is Part of Safety
A safe workplace is about more than preventing physical injuries. It is also about creating an environment where people feel comfortable speaking up, asking questions, or reaching out for help when they need it.
Psychological safety is not about having all the answers. It is about building trust, treating one another with respect, and making sure people know they will be met with support when they need it. When people feel seen and supported, it creates a stronger, safer environment for everyone.
Making a PACT for Our People
At EDA, that belief is reflected through PACT, or Personal Accountability Changes Today. PACT was created to support employees facing substance-use and mental health challenges with compassion, accountability, and a path forward.
The program helps connect people with the resources and support they need, while reinforcing an important message: no one should have to face these challenges alone. PACT is one way EDA extends its commitment to safety beyond the jobsite and supports the people behind the work.
Looking Out for One Another
Wellness can look different for everyone. It might mean taking care of your physical health, managing stress, reconnecting with family, asking for help, or checking in on someone who may not seem like themselves. Sometimes, it can be as simple as making time for an honest conversation.
National Wellness Month may be coming to an end, but the responsibility to look out for one another does not. Every person at EDA plays a role in creating a workplace where people feel seen, supported, and safe to speak up.
Because the people behind the work matter just as much as the work itself.
